At a certain point photography stopped being something I wanted to do and started being something I had to do. Exploring images through photography is a way of exploring what it means to be human—to be a woman—to be living in contemporary society. Through images I am trying to capture what lies beneath the surface—what exists behind the seemingly well-balanced facades of people as they live their lives. Anne Lammot talks about how people are always busy comparing their insides to everyone else’s outsides. Well, through photography I want to bring all our insides to the surface—all our insecurities, our fears, our doubts, our dreams, and our desperation. Photography is my way of filtering the world—of trying to understand it. It is this core connection that I am trying to capture in my work. My work on addiction was chosen as one of 25 student winners in the PDN 2008 Annual, published in the May 2008 PDN Magazine. My work has appeared in The London Times, Photo Forum Magazine Best of College Photography Annual 2008, and national marketing for author in numerous Barnes and Nobles stores, websites, and magazines. My work has also been shown in numerous group gallery shows. In the fall 2007 I had the opportunity to assist on a Spencer Tunick shoot/production in South Beach, Miami, Florida. For 3 months in the summer of 2008, I interned for the documentary photographer and filmmaker, Lauren Greenfield, in Los Angeles, California.
After completing my internship, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to finish my last year of undergraduate studies at Savannah College of Art and Design. I graduated in May 2009 cum laude, with a BFA in photography.
